Yes, it’s that time of year again, the time where bracketology reigns supreme and the cry around the nation is “Win or Go Home!” Last year’s Webcomics Mix March Madness was incredibly popular, and so we’re doing it all over again. The problem? There are so many good webcomics out there, and we’ve found more this time around (and we skipped a bunch last time).
So we’re opening it up to you. We’re giving you a list of over 150 webcomics, and we want your votes. The highest vote getters make it into the tournament, with the biggest getting top seeds. In addition, if you think there are some we’ve missed, nominate them in the comments below.
The voting ends Monday at 11:59 PM, and brackets go up on Tuesday! Let’s get it on!
UPDATE 2:00 PM: Yes, we’ve fixed the voting, you can now vote for up to 128 strips. Get in there and vote early, and vote often!
UPDATE 3/10 3:00 AM: Leave it to the internet– come up with a list of a hundred and fifty, and people come up with another fifty you can’t believe you missed/forgot/never heard about, dammit. We’ve updated the original poll to include forty newcomers at the end. We followed your suggestions with a few exceptions:
1. No NSFW comics. We aren’t prudes here, but there are enough people who are coming to this contest for the first time, we don’t need to be showing them things like Oglaf or Blur The Lines.
2. No comics on hiatus. Our rule of thumb is “has published an installment since January, and two since the start of 2012”. This has resulted in the rejection of such wonderful strips as Misery Loves Sherman.
Keep your nominees coming, and remember to vote for the new folks!
UPDATE 3/10 5:30 PM: Good grief– how have we not heard of some of these great strips? We just added another 35 great webcomics to the end of the list…
UPDATE 3/12 2:00 AM: Unbelievable. Thanks to reader contributions and comments, we’re now over 300 strips, many of them amazing (along with the headslappers– we forgot Buni? We missed Real Life?) There’s still 22 hours to vote, so there’s enough time for the latecomers to make it into the tournament. All the new adds are at the bottom of the list; sadly, the polling software we’re using won’t let us resort the answers in alphabetical order after the poll has started. Consider it a chance to find even more great webcomics! Vote now, and don’t forget to check back on Tuesday when we reveal the final brackets and start the competition!

I’d like to take the opportunity to add three more to this already overflowing list: No Need For Bushido for the wonderful mix of serious epic and nonsensical humour – and medieval Japan for Musashi’s sake, Out There because, well, it’s there – and it’s simply so good, and No Pink Ponies because, you know, it’s Eisu. I’m not sure it’s not invalidated by the “not on hiatus” rule because it may have been updated only once since the beginning of the year. The latest strips are dated in 2010 but have been uploaded much later (and I know for a fact the latest one has been uploaded in 2012). That’s because Eisu is currently trying to catch up with lost time and his strips are backdated.
